Floodscapes: Photo-Collages by John Goto

'Outside Tate Modern' by John Goto, an image from the Floodscapes exhibition

Kirkham Gallery
17 February – 22 April 2007

Flooding is an issue which faces us all. This exhibition tackles the subject in an innovative and striking fashion.

John Goto has produced a series of stunning photo-digital collages, many with classical inspiration. Set in the near future, the works show a journey through a flooded London and Thames Valley. The works illustrate the potentially catastrophic impact of human activity on the environment, but also hint at solutions and at innovative ways of managing flood risk.

The exhibition has been produced as part of the FloodScape project, a programme examining flood prevention and management across four north European countries.

‘My ambition is to make art, without inhibition, which tells people how it was to be alive in the time I live in’ John Goto

Floodscapes is supported by the University of Derby, where Goto is Professor of Fine Art, in collaboration with the Environment Agency.
