Arts Award Presentation
The first batch of Arts Awards at Bronze Level have been presented to budding young artists who have attended the Saturday afternoon Artways Club at the River & Rowing Museum over the past year. The Museum is now a centre for this new qualification, recognised by the National Qualifications Framework. Artists Hen Coleman and Camilla Shelley, who both have Masters Degrees, have been specially trained to teach the award.
Arts Award is a national qualification that supports young people aged 11-25 to develop as artists and arts leaders. Arts Award is run at three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold offered at Levels 1, 2 and 3 on the National Qualifications Framework. These budding young artists have completed individual schemes of work and tasks that help to increase their skills and confidence. The Award also highlights the opportunities at the Museum for ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’.
Camilla Shelley says “This is a good opportunity to introduce a structure and purpose to creative young people that will boost their confidence and give them recognition.”
The next course for Arts Award at Bronze level starts in November on Saturday afternoons.
