Annual review
Annual review 2007- 2008
A record 105,000 visitors in the 12 months to March 08 is an important landmark for the Museum. It's also a fantastic way to begin the celebrations of the tenth anniversary of the opening in November 1998 by H.M. The Queen. This figure included over 20,000 users of the Arbib Education Centre and was helped by the free return ticket prompted by the government's popular gift aid scheme.
Extreme flooding in July 07 inevitably affected our summer visitor numbers but reminded us again of the importance of understanding the effects of climate change on the environment. These issues are an increasing part of our education work.
The year continued literally with a splash at our major fundraising Splash Ball in May 08. This achieved a fantastic contribution towards our ongoing operational costs. At the end of May 08 we were able to celebrate again with a medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for the 'River & Rowing Museum Ratty's Refuge' Garden - beginning the celebrations of the centenary of the publication of The Wind in the Willows.
We are grateful to those who support the Museum in so many different ways, in particular the Splash Ball hosts and guests, corporate sponsors - especially Invesco Perpetual, members of the Henley 100 Club and Friends of Rowing, the Heritage Lottery Fund and many more. Our volunteers and staff also deserve special thanks.
