5th April 2018 @ 8:00 am - 13th May 2018 @ 5:00 pm
Celebrated former Henley resident Humphrey Gainsborough was born 200 years ago, and this exhibition examines his incredibly diverse range of inventions during his time living in Henley. From a tide mill, a drill plough, a self-ventilating fish wagon, a steam engine with a separate condenser and a fire-proof safe.
He maintained a close relationship with his younger brother, the celebrated artist Thomas Gainsborough, throughout his life. In 1748 Humphrey Gainsborough became Henley’s congregational minister and an ingenious engineer and inventor.
