Not only a champion sculler in England but subsequently a women’s rowing coach in the United States, Lucy Pocock-Stillwell led an extraordinary life for a woman in the early Twentieth Century. This talk will explore her career as a professional sculler and as a coach to women in Washington State, and consider how her experiences align with, or challenge, social expectations of women at the time on both sides of the pond.
