Spotlight Collection Talk: 1829 Boat Race Letter
30th September 2019 @ 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm
Join our Curator on National Sporting Heritage Day to find out about the 1829 Boat Race letter. The 1829 letter written by Charles Wordsworth of Oxford University to Charles Merivale of Cambridge University was discovered by the River & Rowing Museum after being spotted by colleagues on the Hear the Boat Sing website earlier this year. The letter marks the foundation of the Oxford Cambridge boat race, recognised globally as one of the fiercest rivalries in sport. This exciting new acquisition is one of the most important letter correspondences in the history of rowing and was almost lost to history! It will now go on permanent display in the Rowing Gallery.
